Nowadays, the traditional media is not the only place where people can consume fashion. Certainly, a lot of people still believe that magazines and newspapers are the best sources to find information about the fashion industry – And are still the most reliable ones.
However, there are plenty of webzines and other types of digital platforms that are growing fast and are consider good informants too.
Extremely related to these platforms, we have the journalists that are fundamental pieces of it. Below, let’s discuss some of them and in which media they are present.
Starting with the most iconic fashion journalist, lets discuss Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine.
It is impossible to talk or think about fashion without mentioning Wintour, that leads the magazine since 80’s and started with some polemics.
Yes, polemics.
Her first cover was Michaela Bercu wearing a pair of jeans that, according to Anna, it was a blind decision that could be ended in a good or a bad way. Well, the answer for it everybody knows.
The editor is famous for being such a reserved person that doesn’t take selfies at all and are always using that black sunglasses. However, the fashion director of Instagram Eva Chen swears to god that Anna has a secret account on the social platform. It makes Anna a more sociable person, right?!

In the charge of Vogue Magazine for more than 30 years, Wintour are an inspiration for anyone who wishes to work in the fashion industry.
Her last article was an intimate opinion about Karl Lagerfeld and his incredible legacy.
Moving forward to another iconic person, let’s talk about Cathy Horyn and her controversy honesty. The critic-at-large of The Cut are famous for being one of the most transparent fashion critics, something that always gave people confidence.
Horyn has worked as a fashion writer of The New York Times for 16 years and it gave her a respectable position on the fashion industry. Even being a journalist that never had afraid to say what she thought, she is always polite and respectful – and this is what makes her so incredible, especially because when is about opinion, people sometimes could be rude.
Her last article was about Karl Lagerfeld memorial and how unforgettable he was.
Lastly, let’s discuss about someone that represents the newness, the modernity: Leandra Medine.
Founder of Man Repeller, a blog that embraces fashion and “anything else” as the blog itself says, Leandra is the new fashion journalism’s representation. Or we could consider her a representation of the fashion consumers?
Representing Journalism and consumers, Leandra was capable to demystify some rules of the fashion industry by analyzing and re-interpreting in a normal person’s view. And this is exactly what people was begging for: someone who could spoke with all fashion extensions.
In one of her recent articles, Medine explain how fashion could be impacted by mental issues. In other words, how depression and other “diseases of the new century” could impact the way we see and consumes fashion.
